Common image sizes

Instagram: 1080 × 1080 px for square posts, 1080 × 1350 px for portrait posts and 1080 × 1920 px for Stories and Reels. Facebook and LinkedIn link images: 1200 × 630 px. YouTube thumbnails: 1280 × 720 px.

Websites: 1920 px wide for full-screen hero images, 1200 px wide for blog images and 400–800 px for thumbnails. Profile pictures work well at 400 × 400 px.

Making an image smaller keeps it sharp and makes the file much lighter. Making it larger than the original cannot add detail, so enlarged images may look soft.

Frequently asked questions

What does “Keep aspect ratio” mean?

It keeps the image's proportions, so it isn't stretched or squashed. When you change the width, the height is calculated for you, and vice versa.

How do I resize an image without losing quality?

Scale it down, not up. PixStrong uses high-quality step-down scaling, so smaller images stay sharp. If you also need a small file, run the result through Compress Image.

Will resizing change the file format?

No. JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG and WebP stays WebP. To change format, use the Convert Image tool.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. PixStrong processes your images directly in your browser. Your files never leave your device and we never see them.

Does PixStrong remove photo metadata (EXIF)?

Yes. The new image is drawn from the pixels only, so EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location is not copied into the file you download. The photo's rotation is applied first, so it still displays the right way up.

What is the largest size I can resize to?

Up to 16,000 pixels per side. Phones have less memory than computers, so very large results may only work on a desktop browser.
