What is an AVIF file?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. It makes images much smaller than JPG at the same quality, which is why websites use it.
What happens to transparency?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. To keep transparency, convert AVIF to PNG instead.
Why is the JPG bigger than the AVIF?
AVIF compresses much more efficiently than JPG. The bigger file is the price of opening everywhere — the image looks the same.
